Missoula County supports HB 34: Exempt certain DNRC grants from MEPA, up for second reading on the House floor this afternoon. This bill exempts DNRC from the requirement to perform environmental reviews for specific grants, loans and bonds. The projects that are funded through the listed statutes (MCA 76-15-5 Conservation Districts Loan Program, MCA 80-7-10 Aquatic Invasive Species, MCA 85-1-6 Renewable Resource Grant and Loan Program, and MCA 90-2-11 Reclamation and Development Grants Program) are already required to conduct an environmental review, making the additional requirement redundant. This bill was a request from DNRC staff acknowledging the duplication and is an effort to reduce staff time for both DNRC and the grantee.
