Missoula County opposes HB 173: Revise laws related to security of vote tabulating machines, as amended, up for second reading today, Jan. 31 on the House floor.
While we support the bill in its original form, and support overall efforts to improve election security, Missoula County opposes HB 173 as amended. We are concerned with cost of implementation and operational efforts associated with the amendments, specifically the requirement to contract with a third-party vendor. Additionally, using a third-party vendor could create a loss of uniformity of procedures across the state.
