Missoula County opposes HB 323: Revise laws related to child protective teams is up for hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. in the House Local Government.
HB 323 would create difficult requirements and barriers that may potentially expose children to abuse or neglect.
This bill would expand requirements for the existing child protective teams to include more members while requiring the teams to meet more frequently. Specifically, the bill requires the team to meet no more than 48 hours before the removal of a child. This is not advisable as once child abuse and/or neglect cases are discovered, the child is immediately removed. If the attorneys were aware of a child abuse case, time spent removing that child is more important to the welfare of the child than convening a child protective team to discuss options.
