Missoula County joins the Montana State Library association in support of HB 91: Revise laws related to public library state aid, as amended, up for second reading on the House floor this afternoon. Over 2,000 patrons check out hotspots from the Missoula Public Library each month, allowing them to access the internet to meet basic needs, search for jobs, communicate and more. This critical service is currently funded by the Montana State Library. Without that funding, Missoula Public Library would not be able to provide the same level of service for thousands of community members each year, and they would not be able to use state aid to provide enriching children's programming and materials to families all over the County. If state aid was increased, that would allow Missoula Public Library to redirect a large amount of Missoula County’s budget to extend services and provide support to even more patrons.
