Missoula County opposes SB 125, Limit certain property tax levies to 5 years without reapproval, heard in the Senate Taxation Committee today. When a local government goes to voters to approve a tax increase to fund a specific service or program, it is not typically for something that can be paid for in five years. A good example of this is the Missoula Aging Services levy that was recently on the ballot in Missoula County, which asked voters to approve additional funding to pay for increases in operational costs. A limit on a levy like this would make long-term planning nearly impossible and would put essential services like those MAS provides in jeopardy every five years.
