Missoula County supports SB 229, Reimburse counties for actual witness costs, up for hearing at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Under the current language, Missoula County is not being reimbursed for any witness costs, shifting the burden onto counties while we represent the State in criminal proceeding. Since the start of FY23 in July, the County has spent over $13,000 while representing the State in criminal proceedings, and anticipates that number to be around $23,000 by the end of the fiscal year this June. This bill will help save the County and property tax payers money.
