Missoula County strongly opposes SB 99, Provide for youth health protection act, scheduled for hearing in Senate Judiciary Friday morning. Missoula County provides medical services through our health department and a Federally Qualified Health Center. SB 99 would prohibit doctors, advanced practitioner nurses and physician assistants from providing accurate and timely medical information and treatment to patients and their families. Montana and Missoula County suffer from some of the highest youth suicide rates in the country. Removing access to publicly available medical options such as FQHCs and health departments will only create more challenges for medically fragile communities. As an employer, Missoula County asserts that the trained medical professionals we hire and employ are in the best position to provide medical advice, including decisions on medical prescriptions and treatments to assist patients in making medical decisions.
