    Senators,

Missoula County supports SB 504: Generally revise veterinary laws, up for second reading on the Senate floor this afternoon. Thank you, Senator Curdy, for sponsoring this bill. SB 504 is intended to clarify that the passage of Veterinary Technician licensure in 2021 (SB 106) was not intended to limit functions currently performed in both municipal and private animal shelters by lay staff. In most shelters, tasks such as the administration of core vaccines and dewormer are undertaken by trained lay staff, which frees up valuable resources for more significant veterinary concerns that need to be addressed by a veterinarian and/or veterinary technician. This bill will ensure that animal shelters, like Missoula Animal Control, can continue to train lay staff to keep homeless and stray pets as healthy as possible while in their care.

    Please support SB 504.
