Missoula County supports HB 380, Establish a grant funding program to support homelessness care providers, up for hearing tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the House Human Services committee.
Increases in housing and rent costs directly correlate to the uptick in homelessness across the state and in Missoula County. The Emergency Winter Shelter in Missoula has experienced a dramatic increase in use this year, nearly double what it was in 2021-2022. Dedicating resources to help people move into permanent housing is a successful strategy to address homelessness. More collaboration and secure funding are needed to continue applying this strategy in Montana.
