Missoula County opposes HB 881: Generally revise economic development laws, up for second reading this afternoon. Removing local governments from being eligible to apply for the Big Sky Economic Development program is a disappointing proposal. Applying for Big Sky Trust Fund grants encourages and fosters cooperation and develops important relationships between businesses, economic developers and local government. Through this program and in partnership with the Missoula Economic Partnership, Missoula County has been able to use these grants to attract corporations to our area such as Cognizant ATG and Consumer Direct Health Care Network. The changes from HB 881 would cut local governments out of the process that allows us to attract these businesses to our area and the state. Missoula is a very attractive place to live and work and we value our ability to encourage that economic development in our home county.
