Missoula County supports SB 288, Eliminate sunset on junk vehicle statute, up for second reading on the House floor this afternoon.
The junk vehicle program has been very successful in Missoula County over the last four years, in which the health department has been able to remove, recycle and dispose of 20 non-motorized vehicles and 18 junk mobile homes. This comes at no additional expense to the state, as we use funding that is already allocated to our junk vehicle program.
Additionally, this program has allowed the health department to clean up several properties that qualified as community decay. In those cases, we entered into agreements with the property owner to help them with mobile home removal if they cleaned up the rest of the property. This program is overwhelming popular with both owners of the junk non-motorized vehicles and their neighbors, who no longer have to look at the decaying property.
