Missoula County supports HB 825: Provide funding to address affordable housing, scheduled for second reading today. We thank Representative Hopkins for sponsoring this bill.
HB 825 would create two funds: the first would support planning grants to local government and the second would support loans to local governments or developers to create infrastructure for residential development. The grants from the planning fund would require changes to plans and regulations that support accessible housing reforms and would cover administration costs of the program. The infrastructure loans align with Missoula County’s housing strategies to provide a range of housing options in our community. Some of these goals include increasing home ownership among residents, providing more long-term rental opportunities, meeting the demands of population growth and partnering with state government, private sector developers and applicants to finance attainable housing.
